The island of Sardinia has its own unique position, halfway between Italy and Spain. Sardinian wines also have a very distinctive style, with a leading role for grape varieties such as vermentino and cannonau. In 1899, engineer Sella and lawyer Mosca from Piedmont decided to start a winery here. Within a few years, they had turned some disused pastures into a thriving vineyard. Thanks to a combination of vision, drive and skill, they soon made Sella & Mosca the best and most renowned wine producer in Sardinia. The company has maintained that position to this day. Far away from other wine regions, Sella and Mosca relied on themselves and developed great craftsmanship in the vineyard. For instance, they were among the first to know how to graft the European vine onto American rootstocks. In doing so, they made an important contribution to the replanting of European vineyards after the phylloxera crisis.

The Sella & Mosca winery, located near Alghero, in north-western Sardinia, covers 650 hectares. The on-site climate is very suitable for viticulture: Mediterranean, with a considerable difference between day and night temperatures, refreshing winds from the sea and fairly constant humidity. The northern part of the vineyard has soil of volcanic origin; to the south predominantly calcareous and sandy soils with varying iron content. The cellars are state-of-the-art. Sella & Mosca cherishes local grape varieties on the one hand, but also has long experience in growing international varieties.

The grapes are harvested early in the season to preserve sufficient freshness. They are pressed immediately, without prior bruising. The free-flowing juice is fermented at low temperature.

Flavour description

A wine that has everything we look for in a rosé. From its soft blushing colour, its charm and digestibility. The nose has a delicate perfume of lavender, rose petals and wild strawberries. It immediately brings out the wine's playfulness and lightness. The wine gives a soft mouthfeel, combined with delicious strawberry and raspberry fruit. But it is mainly the fresh spicy note in the wine that provides the play and character in the wine. It makes the wine finish dry and uplifting. The acids in the wine are not severe, in-your-face acids. They emerge mainly in the aftertaste, which makes the wine so enjoyable to drink.

Application

The Rose is one with no worries. Just pour it at fridge temperature and everything will go your way. Don't pour it too cold either, you will lose the soft mouthfeel when drinking the wine. It is a wine for the summer season and not for putting away. No more waiting for anything when the wine fully reveals itself.

Wine and food

Of course, it is a great wine with summer drinks. But also goes great with a seafood dish. Pour this with an old-fashioned shrimp cocktail and it's definitely party time. How about red mullet, or a summer Gazpacho. Or at lunch with a salad with crayfish.
